Adrienna Matzeg / Room 207

Adrienna Matzeg / Room 207

Adrienna Matzeg is working at the intersection of photography and textile to create her punch needle embroidery compositions. She is drawn to the narrative quality that both photography and textiles possess, nostalgia being a prominent theme in her practice. Through reducing the subject matter in her work to simplified colors, shapes and fragments she explores how we recall memories, with a specific interest in travel destinations and souvenirs.

By working with a range of analog and digital processes including weaving, screen printing and photographic mediums, Adrienna earned her degree in Photography from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design.

Adrienna’s personal work has been shown in the MOCA Toronto, Cry Baby Gallery, Maison et Objet Paris, and the Affordable Art Fair NYC among others. Her work has been procured by Earls Restaurants and international private collectors, with select features including Colossal, Designboom and Living Corriere Magazine.

This piece is presented as part of our International Women's Day Exhibition, After You: The Broken Telephone Collection, running from March 6th to 8th. Over a year in the making, the Broken Telephone Collection began with one artist working from a reference photograph; each subsequent artist created a piece inspired by the one before her, and so on, and so forth.

Each acquisition from this collection will include a complimentary 11" x 8.5" print of the reference piece that precedes it. The inspiration piece for this artwork is Hayley Axelrad, Woman in A Green Chair. Please note, all artworks will be shipped after the exhibition has concluded.
